Task Force of Planning and Evaluation initiates evaluation work of manpower needs of different sectors in Macau

The Task Force of Planning and Evaluation under the Talents Development Committee held the second meeting of the year on 13th August, chaired by Dr. Yeung Tsun Man, convener of the Task Force. During the meeting, Secretariat of the Committee invited delegates of the research teams from the University of Macau, Macao Polytechnic Institute, Institute for Tourism Studies and Macau University of Science and Technology to report on the preliminary results of the "Survey on Manpower Needs in Five Major Sectors - Phase 1".

In order to enable the SAR Government to more accurately grasp the current status or next 3-6 years of manpower needs of different posts in major sectors in Macau, the Committee commissioned four local higher education institutions earlier to carry out in-depth survey on the gaming, hospitality, catering, retailing and MICE industries. Delegates of the research team from each higher education institution briefed the survey results of the first phase respectively at the meeting. After listening to the reports by various parties, members of the Committee proposed their recommendations based on the report contents and statistical data collection and improvement, including: add analysis on the impact of social and economic adjustment on manpower needs of different sectors; clearly specify the survey hours and research methodology; clearly classify and define the posts of each sector; and clearly describe the external factors to reduce ambiguity of statistical data, etc. After thorough discussion, the Task Force will carry on the work of Phase 1 study based on the five sectors mentioned above, improving data collection and initiating, step by step, the evaluation work of manpower needs of different sectors in Macau.
