Task Force of Talents Development propel its work actively

Raised by the Task Force of Talents Development, Group of “Program of Motivating Qualified and Specialized Talents” and Group of “Program of Promoting Application-oriented Talents” held a meeting at the Tertiary Education Services Office. In the meeting, the members exchanged their opinions on obtaining international qualifications, advanced professional training and career training courses.

Research on setting up a mechanism to encourage residents to obtain international qualifications
The meeting of “Program of Motivating Qualified and Specialized Talents” was hosted by group leader Van Iat Kio, who indicated that the major responsibilities of the program were researching and laying out policies and measures, which may encourage and support professionals with firm foundation or achievement in different realms to refine their knowledge, technical skills and professional competence, so as to contribute more to the society. The members were welcomed to show more opinions on this topic.

Members of the group pointed out that along with the constant economic growth of Macao, many industries were in high demand of professionals. It was suggested that the government lay out a mechanism to support local residents to obtain different international qualifications or receive advanced career training, so as to soothe the problem of a lack of professionals, and encourage continuing education and upward mobility of talents, thereby facilitating the sustainable development of Macao. The members also emphasized that the industries played an important role in promoting the “Program of Motivating Qualified and Specialized Talents”, thus the government should strengthen the communication and connection with the industries, especially in the fields of professional qualification system, training venue and instructors. The program would launch data collection, to understand the demand for professional of the industries.

To collect and straighten out information of career training courses
The meeting of “Program of Promoting Application-oriented Talents” was hosted by group leader Wong Chi Hong. Wong indicated that the program aimed at fostering and developing application-oriented talents that were necessary for the rapid development of Macao, especially the industrial and technical talents for moderate economic diversification. Therefore, the program had to acknowledge the current situation of career training of the industries.

During the meeting, the members introduced the situation of career training in government departments, associations and organizations. A fair number of members agreed that some of the current career training courses were not coping with the pace of growth of the society, and were reducing residents’ motivation in taking up the courses. It was suggested that the government cooperate with the industries and associations, and intensify the effort in propelling career training courses which were adhered to Macao’s economic development. Meanwhile, the government should take the initiative to promote professional qualifications of industries. The program would collect and straighten out information of career training courses from the related government departments, associations and organizations, to help with a comprehensive understanding about the career training situation of the industries.
